What Guaifenesin is used for
Guaifenesin is used to treat cough that contains mucous (productive cough).
Do not take Guaifenesin
- If you’re allergic to the active substances or any other component of this medicine.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine including:
- If you have a long term cough due to asthma or COPD.
- If you have a cough with too much mucous production.
- If you have had a cough for more than 7 days or if you have any other symptoms, contact your doctor.
Possible side effects
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Side effects include:
- Headache
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting

How to take Guaifenesin
- This medicine is intended for adults and children 12 years and older.
- Take as indicated by your doctor.
- Take with or without food.
- Swallow tablets whole. Do not chew, break, or crush.
- The usual recommended dose is one or two extended release tablet every 12 hours. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours.
How to store Guaifenesin
- Store at room temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C).
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
*Dosage form and route of administration of Guaifenesin 24 mg/mL syrup and 20 mg/mL syrup should be prescribed according to therapeutic indication and disease severity of each individual patient.
